Rembrandt Square Hotel
A tree-lined Amsterdam canal at sunset, with small boats and a houseboat moored along the quay

The neighbourhood

Step out of the door and you are on one of Amsterdam’s liveliest squares, with the canals, the Amstel and the old centre all within walking distance.

Rembrandtplein in spring: the Rembrandt statue above the bronze Night Watch figures, with trees and city buildings around the square

Rembrandtplein

The square is named after the painter, whose statue stands in the middle among the trees. Around it: terraces, cafés and the tram stop right in front of our door.

Around the corner

  • Thorbeckeplein

The small square next door, lined with bars and terraces.

  • Utrechtsestraat

A street full of independent shops, cafés and restaurants, starting a few steps away.

  • Tuschinski

Amsterdam’s famous Art Deco cinema from 1921, on Reguliersbreestraat just off the square.

  • The Amstel

The river that gave the city its name, with the Magere Brug crossing it a short walk away.

The Amsterdam skyline at sunset seen from above, with church towers and the dome of the Basilica of St Nicholas

When the sun goes down

By night the square lights up. Bars, clubs and terraces fill Rembrandtplein and the streets around it, right outside your window.

An Amsterdam canal at dusk: a brick bridge with lights along its arches and gabled canal houses with lit windows

The canals

The 17th-century canal ring, a UNESCO World Heritage site, starts just beyond the square. Walk it at dusk, when the bridges light up.

All of these are a walk from the hotel:

  • The Flower Market (Bloemenmarkt)
  • Muntplein
  • Kalverstraat
  • The Magere Brug
  • Waterlooplein
  • The Rembrandt House Museum
  • The museums and canals of the city centre
